Desert riding is one of the most memorable parts of the Morocco Gravel Adventure and unlike anything most cyclists have experienced before.
The majority of the route follows wide, hard-packed gravel roads and firm desert tracks that are surprisingly smooth and incredibly enjoyable to ride. However, Morocco is a living landscape, shaped by the wind. Depending on the previous night's conditions, you may occasionally encounter short sections of soft sand where riding simply isn't possible.
When this happens, it's all part of the adventure. Rather than battling the sand, we'll simply hop off, walk our bikes for a short distance, typically no more than 20–50 metres, and continue riding once we're back on firmer ground.
These brief walk-throughs often become some of the most talked-about moments of the tour. They add authenticity to the experience and remind us that we're exploring a real desert, not riding on manicured cycling trails. It's these unexpected moments that create the stories, laughter and memories our guests still talk about long after they've returned home.
After all, the best adventures aren't always perfectly smooth. They're the ones you'll never forget.
