Slovenia Cycling Tour 2025 Recap: A Journey Through Pure Pedalling Paradise

Slovenia-Cycling-Tour-2025-Recap-A-Journey-Through-Pure-Pedalling-Paradise Après Vélo

In June 2025, we laced up our cleats, clipped in, and rolled into what can only be described as a cycling odyssey through one of Europe's best-kept secrets: Slovenia. With a group of spirited riders, adventurous non-riders, and the unmistakable vibe of the Après Vélo lifestyle, this tour was nothing short of phenomenal. If you’re considering joining us in June 2026 (11th–19th), consider this your gentle nudge: Slovenia is calling.

A Land Made for Cycling Tours

From quiet backroads and vineyard-laced hills to alpine passes and sun-drenched coastline, Slovenia served up daily surprises. We began our journey in the charming capital of Ljubljana, a city that blends old-world elegance with modern flair. After a warm welcome, bike setups, and an evening toast to new adventures, the pedals started turning.

The days that followed unfolded like scenes from a postcard. We rode through serene parks, up into the Polhograjski Dolomites, and along the wetland beauty of the Ljubljana Marshes. Each day layered on more diversity: Lake Bled’s crystal waters, the majestic Julian Alps, Brda's rolling vineyards, and the Adriatic charm of Piran. No two rides were alike, yet each left us wanting more.

Designed for Cyclists — and Non-Riding Partners

This isn’t just a cycling tour for the cycling obsessed. While our riders tackled iconic climbs like the Vrsic Pass or rolled through coastal olive groves, non-riding partners were indulging in a parallel itinerary of curated cultural gems — from wine tastings in boutique vineyards to exploring medieval towns perched on hilltops.

Everyone, rider or not, ended their day with great food, local wine, and unforgettable company. That’s the Après Vélo difference: adventure meets indulgence, with room for all.

A Few Highlights (Among Many)

  • Riding from the picture-perfect Lake Bled to the Italian border via the Radovna Valley

Some Frequently Asked Questions about our Slovenia Cycling Tour

Is Slovenia good for cycling?

Absolutely. Slovenia is a cyclist’s dream—quiet roads, varied terrain, breathtaking scenery, and a deep connection to nature. From alpine climbs to wine country rollers and coastal spinning, it offers something unforgettable for every type of rider.

What are the best regions to incorporate into a Slovenia cycling tour?

  • Ljubljana – A charming capital city with bike-friendly streets, rich history, and a relaxed European vibe to ease into your adventure. Let's not forget about Tivoli Park - a serene, expansive haven where manicured gardens meet forested trails, perfect for cycling, strolling, or simply soaking up the city’s laid-back charm.
  • Kranjska Gora – Nestled in the Julian Alps, it’s the gateway to iconic mountain climbs and alpine beauty, including the legendary Vršič Pass.
  • Brda – Known as Slovenia’s wine country, Brda offers rolling hills, vineyard vistas, and quiet backroads perfect for scenic riding (and sipping).
  • Piran – A stunning coastal town on the Adriatic, perfect for winding down your ride with ocean views, fresh seafood, and sunset dips in the Adriatic.

Can you cycle around Lake Bled, Slovenia?

Yes, and it’s every bit as magical as you’d imagine. The ride around Lake Bled is short but packed with panoramic views of turquoise waters, the iconic island church, and snow-capped peaks in the distance — a picture-perfect pedal through fairytale scenery.

How long does it take to cycle around Lake Bled?

It takes us around 30 to 45 minutes to cycle the full loop, depending on your pace and how often we stop for photos (and you will stop for photos!).

What is the best time of year to do a cycling tour in Slovenia?

June is ideal. The weather is warm but not too hot, the roads are quieter before peak summer hits, and the landscapes are at their vibrant, green best — perfect for riding, wine tasting, and soaking it all in.
