Japan offers exceptional cycling throughout much of the year, however spring and autumn are widely regarded as the country's premier cycling seasons thanks to their comfortable temperatures and spectacular natural beauty.
Spring (April–May)
Spring is one of the most magical times to visit Japan. As the country awakens from winter, cherry blossoms begin to bloom across parks, rivers and mountain landscapes, creating one of the world's most iconic natural displays. Temperatures typically range between 12–24°C (54–75°F), providing ideal conditions for long days in the saddle.
Fresh mountain air, lush green countryside and crystal-clear visibility make spring particularly rewarding for cyclists exploring Japan's quieter rural regions.
Autumn (September–November)
Autumn is equally spectacular. Comfortable daytime temperatures, generally between 15–24°C (59–75°F), combine with low humidity and stable weather to create outstanding riding conditions.
As the season progresses, forests and mountain valleys transform into brilliant shades of gold, crimson and burnt orange. This dramatic autumn colour provides a breathtaking backdrop for every ride and is one of the reasons many cyclists consider autumn to be Japan's finest cycling season.
