SLOVENIA: A PLAYGROUND FOR CYCLISTS

It’s the perfect ride to test the legs on short, punchy climbs, many of which have featured in prestigious races like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of Slovenia. A blend of culture, nature, and cycling history makes this ride truly special.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: LJUBLJANA WARM-UP RIDE

60km | 400m elevation

Our Slovenian adventure begins amongst the café culture and historic charm of Ljubljana, one of Europe’s most underrated capitals. Rolling out at midday through Tivoli Park, we leave the city behind and settle into the quiet rhythm of Slovenia’s countryside roads.

The ride loops through the peaceful Ljubljana Marshlands and towards the foothills of the Polhov Gradec Dolomites before returning to the city. A relaxed opening ride designed to shake out the travel legs, settle into the group, and soak up the atmosphere of what lies ahead.

Over an evening sundowner, you will get to meet your fellow adventurers and the Après Vélo team, who will provide a tour briefing, followed by a group welcome dinner.

DAY 2: LJUBLJANA TO LAKE BLED

75km | 650m elevation

Leaving Ljubljana behind, we ride north towards Slovenia’s spectacular Alpine region via quiet country roads and beautiful rolling terrain.

Along the way we pass through Komenda, hometown of cycling superstar Tadej Pogačar, before continuing through the charming old town of Radovljica and deeper into Upper Carniola.

Our reward awaits at the breathtaking shores of Lake Bled — one of the true highlights of Slovenia and our home for the next two nights.

DAY 3: TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK & LAKE BOHINJ

70km | 1,200m elevation

Today’s ride takes us deep into the heart of Triglav National Park and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Julian Alps.

Climbing steadily through pine forests towards the Pokljuka Plateau, we eventually descend to the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest natural lake. Surrounded by towering peaks and alpine beauty, this is Slovenia at its absolute finest.

Following the Sava Bohinjka River, we return towards Lake Bled along peaceful cycling paths and quiet back roads.

DAY 4: VRŠIČ PASS & THE SOČA VALLEY

80km | 1,550m elevation

The queen stage of the tour.

Leaving Lake Bled, we ride through the stunning Radovna Valley towards Kranjska Gora and the emerald beauty of Lake Jasna before tackling Slovenia’s most iconic climb — the legendary Vršič Pass.

Its famous 24 cobbled hairpins, dramatic alpine scenery and sweeping mountain views make this one of Europe’s truly memorable cycling ascents.

From the summit, a spectacular descent leads us into the turquoise beauty of the Soča Valley and onto Bovec, before transferring to the vineyard-lined hills of Goriška Brda.

DAY 5: GORIŠKA BRDA WINE ROADS

58km | 1,000m elevation

A completely different side of Slovenia awaits today as we explore the vineyard roads and rolling hills of Goriška Brda — often referred to as Slovenia’s Tuscany.

It’s the perfect day to test the legs on short, punchy climbs, many of which have featured in prestigious races like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of Slovenia. A blend of culture, nature, and cycling history makes this ride truly special.

Quiet wine roads connect charming villages, hilltop views and the emerald-green Soča River as we ride between Slovenia and Italy.

After a long vineyard lunch in the heart of BRDA, we will transfer to the charming coastal town of Piran, our home right on the Adriatic Ocean for the next 3 nights.

DAY 6: SLOVENIAN ISTRIA COASTAL LOOP

55km | 700m elevation

Today blends coastal riding with Mediterranean charm.

Departing Piran, we follow the Adriatic coastline through the picturesque towns of Izola and Koper before climbing inland amongst vineyards, olive groves and sleepy Istrian villages.

Beautiful roads, sea air and rolling terrain combine to create one of the tour’s most relaxed and scenic riding days before returning to Piran for another evening by the sea.

DAY 7: SLOVENIA TO CROATIA ISTRIA

90km | 1350m elevation

Our final stage carries us across the border into the heart of Croatian Istria.

The landscape shifts once again, crossing a landscape of vineyards, olive groves and quiet hilltop villages, as we head towards Grožnjan, a beautiful hilltop town known for its stone streets, art galleries and wide views across the surrounding valleys.

After a typical Istrian light lunch whilst enjoying the atmosphere of this historic village, we return by bike towards the Slovenian coast and finish back in Piran.

A fitting finale to an unforgettable cycling journey spanning alpine peaks, emerald rivers, Mediterranean coastlines, and some of the most beautiful roads in Europe.
