SLOVENIA: A PLAYGROUND FOR CYCLISTS

The BRDA Vineyard route takes us through the picturesque vineyards, historic towns and rolling hills of Goriška Brda, offering a mix of scenic beauty and challenging terrain.

It’s the perfect ride to test the legs on short, punchy climbs, many of which have featured in prestigious races like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of Slovenia. A blend of culture, nature, and cycling history makes this ride truly special.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: LJUBLJANA LOOP

Distance – 60km
Elevation – 450m

Your adventure begins around midday in the heart of Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana and its surroundings with pretty pastel buildings, parks, churches and small city charm.

You’ll ride through the serene Tivoli Park, a green oasis within the city, before heading toward the rugged beauty of the Polhograjski Dolomites. The route takes you through the peaceful landscapes of the Ljubljana Marshes Nature Park, a haven for birdlife and unique wetlands, before looping back to the vibrant city centre, completing a great day of exploration.

We strongly recommend you arrive in Ljubljana on the 12th of July, to arrange bike set up, recover from any jet lag and fully enjoy planned activities for DAY 1. Let us know if you would like us to arrange any extra accommodation for you.

DAY 2: LJUBLJANA TO KRANJSKA GORA

Distance – 95km
Elevation – 1,200m

Today we ride to the picturesque Lake Bled, cycling through the tranquil Radovna Valley, with stunning views of the Julian Alps.

Passing the serene Lake Kreda, visit the charming alpine village of Mojstrana before following the scenic bicycle lane on the old railway track toward the famous Kranjska Gora ski resort. The adventure continues as you cross into Italy, taking in the breathtaking views at Lake Fusine, before returning to Kranjska Gora for the night.

DAY 3: 50 SWITCHBACKS OF JULIAN ALPS

Distance – 65km
Elevation – 1,150m

Today's challenge starts with the iconic climb up the Vršič Pass, known for its historic cobblestone hairpins and spectacular alpine views.

After reaching the summit, we descend into the stunning Trenta Valley and follow the emerald green Soča River, one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers.

The ride ends in the alpine village of Bovec, nestled in the heart of Slovenia’s adventure region, where nature and adrenaline meet.

DAY 4: BOVEC TO GORIŠKA BRDA

Distance – 72km
Elevation – 660m

Ride from Bovec to the rolling vineyards of Goriška Brda, Slovenia’s premier boutique wine region. Along the way, enjoy scenic stops in the rugged Karst region and the lush Vipolže Valley with its breathtaking views. Picturesque vineyards, historic towns and the rolling hills of Goriška Brda will be today's backdrop for our ride, offering a mix of scenic beauty and challenging terrain.

DAY 5: GORIŠKA BRDA TO PIRAN

Distance – 97km
Elevation – 760m

Goriška Brda to Piran is a ride that blends rolling vineyards with the sparkling Adriatic coast. Starting in the lush hills of Brda, often called the “Tuscany of Slovenia,” you will experience a mix of short, punchy climbs, many of which have featured in prestigious races like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of Slovenia.
As the ride progresses toward the coast, hills give way to panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the Mediterranean.

DAY 6: SEASIDE PENINSULA RIDE

Distance – 56km
Elevation – 740m

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic loop along the Slovenian coast. Our route takes us partly along the historic Parenzana cycling lane, with sections offering stunning views from the hills above the Adriatic Sea. This blend of coastal beauty, historic towns, olive groves and panoramic hilltop vistas will make for an unforgettable ride along Slovenia's picturesque coastline.

DAY 7: PIRAN TO CROATIAN ISTRIA

Distance – 90km
Elevation – 1,370m

Your final day and longest ride takes you from the coastal charm of Piran into the scenic Slovenian Istria region, crossing into Croatia.
You’ll cycle through picturesque hilltop historic villages such as Buzet and the walled Motovun, one of the most famous and attractive Istrian medieval towns in Croatia.
